The Fare Zones

The RER, Transilien, and express tramway network is spread into different fare zones. When you ride the RER or Transilien train networks, the cost of your trip depends on how many fare zones you travel across. When you buy a travel pass, you must state which fare zones you want when you buy it. (The more fare zones you want, the more expensive it is.)

Important note: Fare zones only matter on the RER, Transilien (suburban train networks) and express tramways. The cost to ride the métro, local tramway, or bus is always the same, regardless on how far you go.

Fare Zones Overview

Zone 1

  • Paris city limits
  • Major train stations

Zone 2

  • Nearby Suburbs
  • Stade de France

Zone 3

  • La Défense (by RER)

Zone 4

  • Palace of Versailles
  • Orlybus (express bus to Orly Airport)
  • Orly Airport by tramway 7
  • Orly Airport by train (does not include Orlyval shuttle)

Zone 5

Dezoning

If you have a weekly, monthly, or annual pass that does not include all fare zones, it is dezoned on weekends and holidays, meaning that you can travel in all 5 fare zones on weekends and holidays even if your pass doesn't include all 5 zones.

No dezoning is available with day passes or other travel passes.
